Working while you learn German — and interim roles in Germany

Most Indian therapists keep their clinical job in India through the entire language phase and study evenings and weekends, which is why B1 typically takes 6–9 months rather than 3. Once in Germany on a recognition visa, the standard interim role is a supervised assistant position at the clinic hosting your Anpassungslehrgang — paid, but below the licensed rate until you receive your Berufsurkunde.

What you can legally do in Germany before licensure

On a §16d recognition visa your permission to work is tied to what the residence permit states — typically the adaptation measure plus a limited side activity. You may not practise independently under the protected title until the licence is issued. Confirm the exact conditions written into your permit with the local Ausländerbehörde rather than assuming.

Interim roles that count

Pick the interim role that shortens your path to licensure, not the one that pays €100 more per month.
